Welcome! I'm Savannah Montier, and I am the Music Specialist at Joy James Elementary School.
EducationI attended the University of North Texas in Denton from 2004 to 2010 where I played cello in the UNT Symphony Orchestra and sang in the UNT Women's Chorus. I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Music Education, and have taught elementary music for eight years.
I completed Kodaly Level I in 2010 at UNT and Kodaly Level II at SMU in 2016, as well as received certification for First Steps in Music in 2017 at Bass Hall Teacher Institute. Professional ExperienceI served as the Elementary Strings Specialist for Lancaster ISD in the 2010-2011 school year where I taught 2nd grade through 5th grade orchestra at four elementary schools. I became the Music Specialist at Houston Elementary in Lancaster ISD from 2011 though 2013, and conducted a choir program and an orchestral program after school.
In 2013, I began my current position as Music Specialist for Joy James Elementary in Castleberry ISD. I currently conduct the Honor Choir at Joy James as an after school ensemble. Professional Learning GoalsI will plan and execute three activities per unit for 5th Gr. students to decode individually using their previous knowledge and skills.
Following the unit plans of Conversational Solfege, lessons will build students' aural decoding skills (step 3&4), and their written decoding skills (step 10&11). Students will practice decoding as a whole group, then move to individual decoding activities. This process will repeat for each unit covered. Lesson plans and unit plans will be designed each week following the Conversational Solfege curriculum, which includes a variety of activities for students to practice decoding as a group and individually.
